Verdict
The trial to prove or disprove the quote “The world and everything in it is an unplanned accident, existence is meaningless; the past is irrelevant; nothing matters.” had no real winner but ,as everything in life, a decision has to be made and if it were up to me I would raise the hand of the defense, thus declaring them the winner. Both teams used their witnesses effectively to support their arguments in their own ways. The opposition did not understand that the past had no effect on the present as shown in the evidence that Beowulf did not mention and show that he did not care about what or who Hrothgar was. He was forgotten and became irrelevant to the people. This proves that the past is irrelevant which means that the existence of everyone is meaningless since in the future everyone would not be remembered and would be irrelevant to the future also. In the end, nothing would matter specially at the end of Time when everything was destroyed. The opposition used feeble arguments of heroism giving a reason to live but they did not understand that those thoughts were just opinions and did not prove or disprove anything. The idea of heroism would die out as the people died also. Whatever they did it would not matter and be meaningless. They tried to justify their stance by using actions that were done under the idea of heroism but these only showed what they did but not what it meant in the general picture. These acts were of course done since it was what they believed. These acts did not disprove that existence was meaningless or the past was irrelevant since they were just examples of acts that would be forgotten in the future and thus be meaningless. Position 2 was too much in a hurry to try to get flaws from Grendel that they did not look at the big picture and the absence of significance in the deeds that "heros" did. I think that the defense was successful in defending their argument and stood their ground. The final verdict should be that the defense or position 1 won the case and trial.
